Kohima, January 8 (MExN): Following a notification by the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima regarding stray dogs on January 3, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) directed all concerned organisations, associations, and individuals within the council not to issue “shoot-at-sight orders for stray dogs.” Such actions are in violation of the provisions of Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCA Act) and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which prohibit the killing of animals, including stray dogs, stated a notification by KMC Chief Executive Officer, T Lanusenla Longkumer. Acts of this nature are deemed illegal under the law, and strict action will be taken against those found violating this directive as per laid-down rules, it added.
