No suspension unless Vigilance directs: NPSC

DIMAPUR: The Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) has disclosed that it was not in a position to suspend any of its officials or staff accused of involvement in the bribery scam, without notification from the Investigations wing of the State Vigilance Commission.

The official, on condition of anonymity, informed The Morung Express that it had yet to receive any directives from the investigating commission and that it was beyond the NPSC’s authority to suspend any of the staff. The official further said that unless specific charges were framed against a particular individual suspected to have a hand in the scam, there were no valid grounds on which suspension can be initiated by the NPSC authorities. “The authorities of NPSC are cooperating with the Vigilance commission”, the official said.

Another official, who also refused to be identified, responded to a query on the Naga Students Federation (NSF) demanding clarification on the selection of only 36 out of 74 candidates after re-evaluation. He said of the (failed) candidates screened in the re-evaluation none of them qualified due to ‘shortage’ of the marks required.

The source also lamented that the NSF was employing “force tactics” without proper knowledge of the due procedures involved.
On the other hand the NSF, which launched an indefinite picketing of the NPSC on July 18 in protest against the rejection of its demands, disagreed with the NPSC’s version of the issue. “We got a request from the NPSC to wait till August 4 to resolve the issue but we refused.

The State Government had already issued suspension orders for those officials and staff under scrutiny, so it should be carried out,” said NSF President Phushika Awomi recently to The Morung Express.
