Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, who also holds the Home portfolio, today stated that there is only one permanent Police check gate in Chümoukedima between Dimapur and Kohima, which is allowed by the Home Department’s Political Branch.

Patton made the claim on the floor of the House in response to questions posed by NPF MLA, Kuzholuzo Nienu on illegal check gates and tolls between Kohima to Dimapur.

Patton further claimed that no tolls are collected by the Police, MVI, Excise and Forest Departments, except the Geology and Mining Department, which has one Mineral Check Gate at Chümoukedima for levying royalty on minor minerals.

The Home Minister further maintained that no information is available on toll gates operated by the Naga political groups. If there are such toll gates, they are illegal, Patton said.

When the NPF MLA stated that there is proof of the existence of check gates manned by various public organizations, the Home Minister assured that the government would look into the matter at the earliest if provided with proper evidence and proof.
