Norman Putsure College hosts Northeast Cultural Festival

Chümoukedima, October 10 (MExN): The Northeast Cultural Festival was held on October 9 at Norman Putsure College, Chümoukedima, with the college serving as the organising partner in collaboration with Young Indians and the Directorate of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland. The festival brought together students from schools and colleges across Nagaland and Assam to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the Northeast.

The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Dr K Timothy, Principal of Norman Putsure College. In his address, he said the festival was a celebration of culture and highlighted culture as an integral part of our extended family and collective identity.

He emphasised that the Northeast Cultural Festival reflects the strength, unity and diversity of the cultures that shape the region, underscoring the importance of preserving cultural heritage while fostering mutual understanding among young people.

The session continued with a performance of Kelhoukevira by students of Norman Putsure College.

Students from various schools and colleges Kohima and Dimapur districts of Nagaland, as well as Assam, participated in a range of events, including the Spelling Bee, Debate Competition, Quiz Competition and the much-anticipated Annual Hide and Seek Competition. 

In the Spelling Bee Competition, Leine Kuotsu of G Rio School secured first position, followed by Bhavana of PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School in second place and Visoufu Domeh of G Rio School in third place.

The Debate Competition saw the Motion Team emerge as the winner. Temjentila of PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School was adjudged Best Speaker from the Motion Team, while Sutsuthong of G Rio School received the Best Speaker award from the Against Team.

In the Quiz Competition, PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School secured first position, with Fernwood School taking second place. Fernwood School also emerged as the winner of the Annual Hide and Seek Competition.

The festival also provided a platform for artistic expression through two talent competitions: Norman’s Got Talent, aimed at school students, and Young Indians’ Got Talent, designed for college students. The competitions included dance, singing and musical presentations.

In Norman’s Got Talent, Loiyong Shongdok of G Rio School secured first position, followed by Mendena of Lima Aier Secondary School in second place and Shemunyeng of Hebron Higher Secondary School in third place.

In Young Indians’ Got Talent, Rielie Doss of ICFAI University won first position, TDC Wave of Tetso College secured second place, and Guidinliu Gangmei of Patkai Christian College finished third.

The festival concluded on performances by artists and influencers Iuli Yeptho, Lanukaba Lemtur and Eva Jamir.
