Dimapur, March 14 (MExN): A recent North East Expo which was held in Delhi proved that Nagas are still far behind the other states when it comes to advertising and attracting tourists, according to a report carried in an online portal www.akasworld.com. Nonetheless, the other attractions of the Expo turned out to be noteworthy. “I was disappointed to find nobody represented ‘ Travel & Tourism’ for Nagaland”, the report states.
Stating that there was high expectation from the Nagaland stall, the report laments that many non-Nagas, all travel professionals, keen to get in touch with the local tour operators/tourism department of Nagaland returned disappointed. There were complaints that visitors could not find any travel department stalls pertaining to the state of Nagaland while noting that there were some enthusiastic travel operators from the other sister states of the Northeast but there were none from Nagaland.
Many visitors expressed keen interest to visit Nagaland and were on the lookout for information regarding brochures and packages of the state of Nagaland. One of the visitor reportedly told that she “was not getting any help from the stalls that belong to Nagaland, can you help me?”
The report goes on to state that the Department of Tourism of Nagaland & local tour operators of Nagaland should have participated in this expo pointing out that such an expo was the best way to promote Nagaland and increase the flow of tourists to the State.
“Until and unless we come forward and present ourselves, there is no way for the tourism industry to boom in Nagaland. As it is, the perception or image about Nagaland is already bad due to insurgency problems. However, we can somehow create a better image of ourselves by participating in these kinds of expos where interested parties/individuals can directly interact with the locals operators. That way, at least the clients to-be get more info/updates or even the skeptics can get a clearer picture about us,” the report notes.
