North Zone edge out East Zone in a thrilling upset: Central Zone takes comfortable 7-wicket win over North East Zone

Chümoukedima, November 8 (MExN):  North Zone edged out East Zone by 3 runs upsetting East Zone in a thrilling nail-biting match at the ongoing Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy held at Nagaland cricket Ground, Sovima on November 8.  

Opting to bat first, North Zone put up a fighting total of 114 for 7 in 20 overs. Deeya Yadav led the innings with a helpful 40 off 24 balls, providing early momentum, while Ayushi Soni anchored the innings with an unbeaten 28 off 33 balls to guide the side to a defendable score.

Chasing the target, East Zone began steadily but struggled to maintain partnerships in the middle overs. T Sarkar played a determined knock of 29 off 35 balls, but North Zone’s disciplined bowling attack turned the tide in the final stages bowling out the East Zone for 111 in 19.5 overs.

Nazma and Amandeep Kaur starred with the ball, delivering an exceptional and 3 for 20 in four overs and 3 for 13 respectively, halting East Zone’s pursuit and sealing a thrilling finish.

Nazma’s exceptional match winning performance earned her the ‘player of the match’ award.

In the second match of the day, Central Zone dominated North East Zone registering a comfortable 7-wicket win in 13.3 overs.  

Electing to bat first, North East Zone struggled to build momentum against a sharp Central Zone bowling attack. Leading the batting charge, Priyanka Kurmi and D D Dutta offered some resistance with a 23 off 20 balls and 23 off 38 balls respectively. However, the resistance could only hold on for a short time as the team was eventually bowled out for 83 runs in 18 overs.

Central Zone’s bowlers dominated the innings, with Anushka Sharma delivering a match winning spell of 5/23 (4.0), supported by Shuchi Upadhyay (2/11) and Vaishnavi Sharma (2/17), ensuring constant pressure throughout the match.

In response, Central Zone chased down the target with ease, finishing the match in 13.3 overs.

Nuzhat Parween (35 off 36 balls) and Mona (30 off 27 balls) led the batting effort with patience and precision, steering their side to a comfortable victory.
Anushka Sharma won the ‘player of the match’ for her brilliant match-winning 5/23 (4.0) spell.
