DIMAPUR, MAY 20 (MExN): Noted social worker and administrator of St. Mary’s Montessori and High School, Dimapur, PK Dutta is now no more. Son of Kamakhya Charan Dutta, sixty-two years old, Dutta breathed his last on Sunday, May 20 in Dimapur. He leaves behind his wife Nina Dutta and three children. The Dutta family has been in Dimapur since the past more than 50 years.
The eldest of Dutta’s children, Proneet Dutta speaking with The Morung Express described the educationist as an ideal man, a figure of inspiration to his three children and people around him. “He was the ideal man, an inspiration for his three children and everyone around him. He worked hard for the betterment of the Naga society… always ready to help the needy and the underprivileged. He was a gem of a person, the best father in the world,” said Proneet of his father.
Late Dutta together with his wife Nina and uncle SK Dutta co-founded St. Mary’s Montessori and High School back in 1991. Their passion to nurture the young while providing the best of education transformed into what is now the illustrious St. Mary’s Montessori and High School – regarded as one of the best schools of repute in Dimapur, and in Nagaland. Before his demise, Dutta was working as the administrator of the school - his wife as the Principal – and a one time General Secretary of the All Nagaland Private Schools Association.
Besides his primary job as a school administrator, Dutta as a social worker was actively involved in philanthropy. He was a member of the Kalibari (temple) committee in Dimapur, and closely associated with charity activities as a member of Lions Club, Dimapur. He was also a one time Governor of Lions Clubs International District 322D.
An avid cricketer, Dutta had at one time played at the Ranji Trophy representing Assam as an all-rounder. In his playing heydays, he had represented Assam in various cricket tournaments.
