DIMAPUR, MAY 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today said it was constrained to react to the statements of the NPF appearing in sections of the local dailies under the captions ‘NPF dismisses Congress statements” and “NPF clarifies Congress allegations’.
The statement issued by the General Secretary and Press Secretary of the NPF Party are nothing but merely a ‘blame-game’ on the Congress Party after the NPF’s failures on all fronts with their tall promises made to the people during the last State General Election, 2003 which they could not fulfill in totality, a release stated. “Their promise to bring final settlement to the Naga Political issue in three months, if voted to power has become a distant dream” a release stated.
The NPCC said that after the DAN conglomeration assumed office, “a peace process was initiated within themselves by constituting the Consultative Committee on Peace and DAN Sub-committee on Peace.” The DAN Sub-committee on peace had to be disbanded, as their policy differed from the opinions of NGOs, the Nagaland Congress claimed.
“After the DAN Sub-committee on Peace was disbanded, an effort was channelized through the Office of the Speaker of the House convening the Joint Legislatures Meeting for formation of Joint Legislators Consultative Committee on Peace.
In this regard, the Congress Party demanded the NPF-led DAN Government to come out with the terms of reference for formation of such committee, but instead of coming out with terms of reference, the NPF-led DAN started charging the Congress party for not extending co-operation to form the Joint Legislators Consultative Committee on Peace. The Congress party does not have any reservation to extend co-operation with any party, if it is in the interest of the people, but it cannot blindly jump into the hidden agenda of the NPF-led DAN.”
The NPCC further said the NPF led DAN with the policy of ‘equi-closeness’ has proved its inability to control the deteriorating law and order situation in the State. “The rule of law is diminishing and there is no security to protect the lives of the innocent public.During the three years rule of DAN conglomeration, the exorbitant price rise on essential commodities is going beyond the reach of the common people and putting their survival at stake.”
It is surprising, the NPF is charging that, when the present Home Minister on his own initiative invited the Congress Legislators to be part of the all party delegation to go to Delhi and apprise the peace process to the Central leaders, the release said.
Stating that the Congress party is a responsible political party in the State, it said “the invitation is an insult to the party when it was made through the level of the Home Minister who is not the Head of the State.”
“The issue needs to be discussed at length with concerned political party leaders before going to Delhi, if we are to apprise the peace process to the Central leaders in one voice.” The NPCC has also reminded the present Press Secretary, NPF “that a man of his stature has a long way to reach the status of the President, NPCC. A press statement issued by the party does not reflect the views and opinions of the person concerned but “what more can a learner contribute, who is trained by a wrong Master”.
