NPCC reiterates NDA govt’s misuse of central agencies

Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on June 15 reiterated its allegation of ‘political vendetta’ against the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre and flayed the selective “picking on political opponents to harass them with the help of central agencies.”

As per a press release, NPCC President K Therie, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, expressed anguish over what he termed as the ‘continued harassment’ of Rahul Gandhi, who was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for third day on June 15, in connection with the National Herald money laundering case.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has previously said that the allegations are false and the matter was left there, he asserted.  “Now, the ED at the instance of the BJP government, is questioning Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi who are part of the Sec-25 ‘Not for Profit’ company, because they are spirited democratic leaders questioning the wrongs of Prime Minister Modi and his Government.”

Maintaining that the ED has become a political tool, Therie said that while it accuses Gandhi of non-cooperation, ‘since there is no guilty conscience, the ED will continue to get the same answers.’

He further lamented that in Nagaland ‘there is blatant evidence of money laundering but they remain senseless to these.’ He claimed that in so many cases involving BJP leaders, there is no questioning while they continue to harass the leaders in opposition. Asserting that the nation has lost democracy, Therie said: “This is not the justice and equality the citizens expect.”

He further stated that the use of government agencies against any leader who questions the government while standing for the people amounts to ‘legal terror,’ and termed it as another face of fascism.

AICC Secretary in-charge of Nagaland, Ranajit Mukherjee also condemned the Delhi Police’s action of entering and harassing party workers at AICC HQ 24, Akbar Road. He said every party worker has the right to enter any party office across the state and condemned the imposition of section 144 on Akbar Road to prevent party workers from entering the party HQ. He also noted that Rahul represents the Congress party with over 70 MPs, hundreds of MLAs across the nation and a state unit in every state and that the Congress Party across the nation is enraged by the deliberate political vendetta being carried on its leadership.

Meanwhile, Vice President of NPCC Alemjongshi Longkumer observed that the present situation represents a ‘Democratic Dictatorship’ and cited examples of the NDA selectively picking on political opponents to harass them. Rahul is one of the most vocal political leaders voicing out against the mis-governance of the central government, the release added, quoting Longkumer.

According to Longkumer, the present government at the centre “is politically, socially, economically, environmentally and morally a failure today while all the autonomous agencies are being used by the BJP Government for their political vendetta.’ He further said every rational citizen must realise and discard the present government in the next elections.

Among others, V Lasuh, Working president, NPCC; Shaboh Konyak, General Secretary, NPCC; and Rajiv Das, Secretary, NPCC were also in attendance at the press conference, the release informed.
