NPCC voices out against ‘rocketing prices’ of commodities

Dimapur, May 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Thursday took a strong exception to the ‘rocketing prices’ of essential commodities in Nagaland and stated that it is the responsibility of the government to sustain the economy of the common people and facilitate the growth of economy.

Citing shortage and no stock by business houses due to lockdown panic buying, random price hike on essential commodities is taking a heavy toll on the public; NPCC president K Therie stated on May 13.

It held the government responsible for failing to control the surging prices stating that “Price control has slipped out of the Government’s mind…”

“The wholesalers and retailers are looting the poor citizens in the name of shortage and less stock,” the NPCC President stated while adding that the public is paying taxes to “11 Governments through wholesalers and retailers on all imported goods. We are even paying taxes to neighbour insurgents.”

Therie further alleged that payments are being made to “police in all the gates and other Government agencies including Taxes, Forest, Excise, Geology and Mining, etc.”

He pointed out that price offences are criminal acts against the citizens and added that  every sensible nation has an independent Pricing Commission headed by a judge or economist which determines the maximum retail price (MRP).

Asserting that the government should be for the people, and not a party government or for the privileged few, Therie added that sustaining the economy of the common people and facilitating the growth of economy is the responsibility of a welfare Government.
