Dimapur, April 10 (MExN): The prospect of former Congress member and present NPF dissident, K Therie’s reported move to rejoin the Congress party seems to be bright as the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has an ‘open door policy’ for any one.
President of the NPCC, Hokheto Sumi, during a telephonic conversation with The Morung Express this evening said that the Congress party has not closed the door for the former Congressman as the party ‘always maintains an open door policy for others.’ However, Hokheto said the return of Therie would be subjected to what ‘intention’ he has for re-joining the party, and for that matter, the NPCC president said only time will tell. When asked to elaborate what he meant when he said about the ‘intention,’ Hokheto said Therie was expelled from the party, and that it is up to the Congress to decide his return depending on his ‘intention’. The NPCC president also said that they don’t invite anybody to join the part though an open door policy is maintained.
On the question of the lower-ranked party workers reported dissatisfaction about Therie’s latest move to rejoin the Congress, Hokheto said that the press release issued by the Pfutsero ACCC might have been a ‘unison decision or an individual one’ in the name of the Assembly Constituency expressing about ‘local views’. In this regard the veteran politician said the real decision will come at an ‘appropriate time and appropriate level’, however, the views of the grass root levels would also be considered, he added.
On being asked about the political career of Therie, the veteran Congress politician said that ‘it all depends upon the individual person’ and declined to comment on it as Therie presently belong to another party.
Interestingly the NPCC president has no official confirmation about from Therie about his willingness to join the party.
It may be mentioned that there has been much speculations and reports about the former congress heavyweight and NPF dissident from Phek district rejoining the Congress party. It has also caused much speculation among the congress workers, especially the Pfutsero ACCC who in a press release went on to state that Therie was a liability both the congress and the NPF parties.
However, with the state general election at hand, such kinds of political development is expected to be a prominent feature; with lots of defections and re-joining among the different political party members.
