Dimapur, January 10 (MExN): The Naga People's Front (NPF) on Saturday expressed deep concern over a reported gunfight between two Naga political groups (NPGs) in the Naga areas of Myanmar, which resulted in casualties.
The incident, which occurred early on January 9, led to deaths and injuries to “some Naga boys,” the party stated.
In a statement issued by its Press Bureau, the NPF termed the "inter-factional fighting" as absolutely discouraging and stated that it “sends a wrong message and undermines our collective efforts towards peace and unity.”
The party also expressed concern that such “fratricidal violence” could negatively impact the forthcoming Naga Yoya New Year celebration scheduled for January 15 in Layshi Town, Naga Self-Administered Zone (NSAZ) in Myanmar. “We fear that continued fighting may disrupt the festivities.”
“We urge all Naga political groups to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue. Fighting within the family won't yield positive results but cause further damage. Peace, unity, and reconciliation are essential. Fighting must be stopped,” the party appealed.
Reaffirming its commitment to a “permanent, honourable, and inclusive solution” to the Naga political issue, the NPF extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The party called upon all Naga groups to “foster mutual respect and work towards serving our people.”
