The NPF party and its leaders are predictably in a state of uneasiness as is being made very obvious by their rubbish and childish arguments in all their election campaigns being conducted in various places since their misdeeds in the last 2 terms of DAN Government have been laid bare to the Government of India through the Chairperson of UPA, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi who is also the President of AICC and other central and various party leaders that have been frequenting the state so far.
It is undoubtedly first of its kind in the history of Nagaland state that without being involving CBI or other central investigative agencies, which are then flatly refused by the DAN Government, massive corruptions and misrule of the incumbent Government have been widely exposed that is also at the time of general election. It is therefore quite obvious that the NPF leaders are envious as well as ‘nervous and desperate’ as they themselves have been lately admitting in various places of campaign.
Casually denying the last poll malpractices adopted by them and shifting their responsibilities is nothing short of owing their own responsibilities in failing to enforce the rule of law at that particular point of time. It may be recalled that PR was imposed in 2008 just at the verge of general election only because of Neiphiu Rio who failed to master majority in the Assembly because of his high-handedness, selfish and autocratic style of functioning thereby bringing ‘constitutional break down’ and compelling the Union Government of India to impose the ‘rule of law’. Blaming Congress party or its leaders or to any other political parties for imposition of PR is yet another style of bombastic and whimsical style of NPF which they usually preferred to shift their responsibilities and divert the issues at hand. This is why the NPF could only win 26 seats in 2008 election even after utilizing forcefully and unlawfully all the Government machineries at their disposal, even ordering re-poll in many places.
If ever Nagaland have become ‘a forgotten part of the country’, it is the NPF led DAN Government’s undoing - their indulgence in rampant corruptions, unabated embezzlement in the state exchequer and amassing their personal coffers with scant regard to any established norms of financial propriety and complete abdication of rule of laws. Seeing such abnormalities in the functioning of DAN Government and the seriousness of predicaments in Nagaland, the Central leaders under UPA Government have been visiting the state so as to highlight the broader outlook and vision the nation has for the people of this small state and to save the people from this one-man show government to all encompassing government where each and every citizen can own the Government of the day. It is therefore an eye sore to NPF leaders when they see host of central leaders continuously visiting the state.
The Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, he himself was a man of Congress party not so long ago so he must be envying the state Congress leaders when he sees the photos of AICC leaders in the Manifesto of NPCC that was released some few days back.
On the Naga political issue, Rio government always makes it a ‘top agenda’ more so at election times so as to find an excuse to face the electorate in the hustings but Nagas have learnt enough from the NPF commitment of solving the issue within ‘three months time’.
Rio in his campaign speeches have been trying to lure the electorate by saying that he will offer the ministry to the NPF winning candidate according to the margin of votes. This is a complete fallacy and abrogation of ‘Representation of Peoples Act, 1951’ and Code of Conduct of electioneering. Moreover, running a Government and offering ministry portfolios does not belong to any body or to Neiphiu Rio himself howsoever powerful he may be nor does the art of governance a child’s play. However, the people of Nagaland are not in a stage to be fooled or be lured by such hollow and whimsical rhetoric nor can they be ride roughshod.
It may be recollected that NPF have never won even a single majority, therefore let the people of Nagaland judge by themselves this time round.
