NPF refutes ‘unfounded remarks’

Dimapur, August 25 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Wednesday responded to reports claiming that the ‘NPF is willing to revive DAN Alliance with BJP to replace NDPP’, and sought to clarify the ‘unfounded remarks’.

Referring to a report in one of the local dailies on August 21, NPF President Shürhozelie Liezietsu asserted that the present exercise to have an opposition-less government in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly is a matter that lies purely within the parameter of the MLAs in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

Political parties have nothing much to do with it except to advise their own legislators in their own line wherever need arises, Liezietsu stated. “Coming together of the MLAs does not mean coming together of the political parties. Political parties will continue to remain as it is,” he added.

Towards this end,  he highlighted the NPF’s  stand that its legislators will join this experiment for  political reason only, which is  issue based; and  that they will not ask or accept  anything  from the  government. Liezietsu assured that the exercise will in no way disturb the smooth sailing of the present government.

While maintaining that the NPF has no ‘ill will’ against any political party, he clarified that nothing has been said about reviving the NPF’s alliance with the BJP.

Recounting the BJP’s ‘eleventh hour’ decision in the 2018 general elections, the NPF termed it a ‘betrayal of trust’, but however added that it has no regrets or grudges against any one for it.

“As such, there is no justification for BJP to remain hesitant to this far for fear of a political party forgetting their responsibility to support peace process,” Liezietsu added.

Reiterating that the NPF endorsing its legislature party to join the new exercise is ‘only for political reason’, the NPF expressed hope that the people of Nagaland would understand if any political party is against the move, adding that, “…what we called ‘political reason’ needs no further explanation for the Nagas.”
