Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): The National People's Women Front (NPWF) has expressed deep concern over the arrest and imprisonment of Sister Preethi Mary and Sister Vandana Francis in Chhattisgarh, terming it a violation of fundamental human rights and religious freedom.
In a statement, the NPWF strongly condemned the “wrongful arrest” and stated that the incident “deeply wounds the conscience of a society that stands for justice, dignity, and religious freedom.”
“As women, as citizens, and as a nation that upholds the right to religious freedom and dignity, we cannot remain silent in the face of such injustice,” the statement read. “We stand in full solidarity with the Sisters, their families, and the Church community.” The NPWF called for an immediate and impartial investigation into the matter and urged the concerned authorities to ensure the prompt release of the Sisters and to restore their honour. “At a time when our nation should be safeguarding the rights of all citizens, including religious minorities, such incidents serve only to divide and destabilize,” the NPWF stated.
