NSCB on socio-economic development of villagers

Kohima | February 20 : The Nagaland State Cooperative Bank (NSCB) came into existence on the basis of cooperative principle and with an objective to put in place a banking system which is friendly to custom and flavor of the local people. This was stated by B.K. Thadani, managing director NSCB during the inaugural programme of Mezo Basa village on Saturday. He encouraged the villagers to come forward and open their account and get maximum benefit from the bank.
The managing director said the bank during 44 years of its existence has been playing a pivotal role for the socio economic development of the village folk and has been of great help to the rural and the farming communities. The bank has been taking all possible endeavors in creating awareness by inculcating the habit of thrifts amongst the rural people and extending banking facilities as well as loan assistance through its branch network spread all over the state also through the primary agricultural cooperative societies, SHGs, JLGS etc.
He asserted that the main objective and functions of the Bank is to promote the interest of the rural farmers, who are considered economically weak, Thadani said adding that the NSCB has been extending adequate finance towards crop loans and all allied activities to uplift the economically weaker sections of the rural populace.
The bank was appointed by the state government as the state channelizing agency for implementation of Integrated Cooperative Development Projects (ICDP) under the NCDC schemes sponsored by the state government. Further, the Bank under its own normal plan and programmes has been fully involved towards extending all types of credit facilities to all sections of the general public.
The managing director also stated that the bank has drawn up ambitious plan and programmes to accelerate the process of financial inclusion in order to cover people who are kept outside the purview of banking facilities and has already covered most of the villages within Kohima district and is also in the process of including the other districts of the state. He also stated that Nagaland is blessed with fertile soil and excellent climatic condition which are highly suitable for cultivation of various crops on rotation basis. He, however, said that on view of the apathy of majority of farmers of the state to adopt improved method of farming the achievement in the field of agriculture production in the state has little impact on the state economy.
Further, Thadani said the bank was confident to play a greater role towards the welfare of the farming communities in particular and the people in general through the network of Agricultural Cooperative Societies in the state to implement the process of Mass Banking and Financial Inclusion for enabling the poorest of the poor, the small farmers, marginal farmers, sub marginal farmers the have not’s.
