NSCN (I-M) reiterates bounty withdrawal demand

DIMAPUR, JAN 28 (MExN): The NSCN (I-M) today reiterated its demand for withdrawal of the Rs 5 Lakh each bounty on the heads of ‘Major’ Ape and Kakuho Assumi, announced by NSCN (K) UT-1 Supervisor Akato Chophi. “At this juncture, the NSCN would like to clarify time and again that Maj. Ape and Kakuho Assumi have never done anything for their personal gains but sincerely discharged their duties as per the power (directives) conferred upon them,”  an MIP release said. “Targeting any particular tribe or organization for the offence of an individual or individualizing government action against them is never a sensible act,” it said.

Condemning the January 24 Chumukedima incident, the NSCN (I-M) alleged that rival cadres forcibly made use of local taxis (NL-07/T-0101 and NL-07/T-0137) “for their heinous acts against the NSCN.” In connection to this, taxi owners and drivers have been asked to “be aware of such unlawful utilization of their vehicles in the future.”

The NSCN (I-M) further said it laments over their ‘ill-fate’ of being “related to the Khaplang group by blood.” The release said, “We do not want to stoop so low as such, to interact, debate or have any sort of paper war with them. It is a waste of time and prestige on our part.”

However, the organization says it is bound to do so, in order to “save our people from being misled” and to prevent their minds from being “polluted.” Maintaining that “we cannot bear to lose even a single Naga because they our strength and we stand for them,” the release said that had the NSCN-K been better organize, the current state of affairs “would never have been in such stigma.” It alleged that their rival, finding no place in the international platform, “resorted to killing and minting money from their own brethren.”

“They have no proper ideologies and principles to guide and discipline their cadres.”
