Dimapur, February 3 (MExN): The ‘Sumi region’ of the NSCN (Isak-Muivah) has banned hunting and fishing, clamped regulations and fines as well. A note from the central administrative officer” of the region informed all village chiefs, VCCs and the Sumi public that the group is prohibiting hunting, killing, trapping and the sale of migratory birds, fishing with ‘modern technique’ is prohibited within the Sumi areas.
Any person found violating the prohibition would be “highly punished,” the note from Atovi Swu said. “Killing of wild life is strictly bandh only for four month i.e. March to June every year, and there shall be serious action upon the violating person, GBs and village council; this azah shall effect from March 2012 and hold until the feature order is issued, (Anyone who report this matter to the authority shall be awarded Rs. 10,000),” the note stated. The groups fine stipulations are: “Killing of wilds life/Faunas- Rs. 25,000; killing and the trapping of Migratory Birds- Rs. 25,000; buyer of the migratory bird- Rs. 10,000; fishing with Chemical- Rs. 25,000; fishing with Battery and Generator- Rs. 15,000; fishing with Explosive- Rs. 10,000.”
