NSCN (IM) bigwigs to feature in peace parleys

DIMAPUR, DEC 13 (MExN): Altogether 15 members of the NSCN (IM) will be making their presence felt in the next round of discussions between the Government of India and the outfit headed by Isak Chishi Swu and Th Muivah slated for December 16 at Bangkok. Speaking to The Morung Express from Kolkata, prior to their departure to Bangkok, Deputy Kilo Kilonser V Horam said, “We will pressurize the Government of India for an early solution as we have the people’s mandate.” Significantly, the representatives of the NSCN (IM) include VS Atem, emissary to the collective leadership and Angelus, another leader who Muivah holds in high regard.

“Ceasefire is a means and not a solution,” Horam reiterated. Among others, those who figure in the list include Tongmeth, Education Kilonser, Steering Committee member TT Among, MIP Deputy Kilonser Karaiba Chawang, Deputy Chief of Army Markson, Deputy Speaker Alezo, Convener of the Ceasefire Monitoring Cell Brigadier Phungthing and Vaisoli. Two women representatives have also left for Bangkok where the talks are scheduled to be held. The negotiations are speculated to have a more serious bearing with the NSCN (IM) sending its more influential leaders to represent the peace talks.

Meanwhile, the NSCN (IM), putting aside the speculation that General Thenoselie of the NNC would be joining their fold, stated that all were invited to discuss issues with them. Further, Horam disclosed that the amnesty provided to rival factions was ample opportunity for them to come to the mainstream.
