NSCN (IM) says GoI treading the path of ‘Machiavellianism’

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 21 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has responded to a news report where Deputy National Security Advisor, RN Ravi who is also interlocutor to the Indo-Naga peace talks reportedly stated that there would be no more new talks with NE militants and that the Framework Agreement was within the Constitution of India.

The NSCN (IM) in a rejoinder on Friday said the December 19 news report titled “No lateral talks with militants, die fighting or surrender, says Deputy Security Advisor RN Ravi” gives an impression of the Indo-Naga political dialogue as seeking solution within the framework of the Indian Constitution or Union of India.

Terming this as deviating from the honorable “out of the box” approach towards a hard line position, the NSCN (IM) said this is clearly a departure from the Framework Agreement, which is based on the mutual respect and recognition of the two entities as mentioned.

It felt that while the Nagas have accepted the honorable way for the concerned parties, the Government of India (GoI) was however treading the path of ‘Machiavellianism.’

“It will be a conscious and deliberate betrayal of the GoI’s position to seek solution without precondition at the highest political level, outside India in a third country and based on the officially recognized unique history and situation of the Nagas,” the NSCN (IM) therefore stated.

It said the GoI should have the courage and the boldness at this juncture for her larger security interest, while adding “if lasting and honorable peace is what she desires she should not drive away the Nagas or those who seek peace.”

Stating that military solution will surely lead to a fresh epidemic of conflict that will cost dearly the lives of both, the NSCN (IM) said there is no foundational logic or basis in that approach after 20 plus years of political negotiation.

It also maintained that political negotiation must not be reduced to seeking political gain of any parties as this would amount to betrayal of the basic principles of the political negotiation and of the August 3 Framework Agreement signed on 2015.

“Wisdom will prevent heartache and bring about honorable solution and permanent peace for both. It is required for both, to honor the moral principles already agreed by both the parties,” the NSCN (IM) stated.
