DIMAPUR, MARCH 14 (MExN): The NSCN Khaplang has stated that there was an attempted murder of Shikato Achumi, Vice-Chairman, Sumi Region, NSCN/GPRN on the morning of March 14 2012 in the heart of Zunheboto town by gunmen of Khehoi camp. Pointing out that this has once again “marred the hard earned peace and taunted the prayers of every Naga for peaceful co-existence”, a press note from the MIP stated that the “armed goons numbering five to six sprayed automatic bursts at the shop where the unarmed Vice-Chairman was shopping”. “However, the intended prey managed to escape with a slight injury on his finger. Such brazen shooting in the town centre during hectic school and office going hours directly threatens the life and security of the people”, the MIP note stated.
The NSCN Khaplang stated that “with every passing day it is becoming clearer to the Nagas that Khehoi camp gives no regard to the sentiments and desires of the people” and pointing out that the Naga political parties and general public must “unite to root out such evil menace jeopardising the lives, political issue and future of the Nagas”. The NSCN Khaplang also stated that on 29th February Dimapur, during reconciliation session itself, the “Khehoi members led by one SS. Lt.Col.Hotoi Ayemi accosted and confiscated a weapon from NSCN/GPRN delegates security official”. “The incident was however reported on the spot itself to the FNR convenor, Dr.Wati Aier for peaceful mediation yet, the weapon has not been returned till date”, the MIP note stated.
The NSCN Khaplang stated that its “sincere commitment and mature endurance to peace and reconciliation endeavour at the risk of lives and safety of our own members cannot be taken for granted”. “The FNR and Khehoi camp are therefore asked to give clear explanation to the Nagas on repeated back tracking and also to clarify if the journey of common still stands valid”, stated the press note.
The NSCN/GPRN Khaplang stated that it would no longer remain “a sitting duck but mobilise it’s resources to defend and uphold the dignity, rights and aspirations of the Nagas against the enemy’s puppets desperately trying to destroy the very basis/foundation upon which the Nagas national struggle has been sustaining till date”.
