In a fresh incident of factional violence, a NSCN (K) cadre was gunned down this evening at around 7 p.m. near the Red Cross complex here by suspected rival GPRN/NSCN cadres. The NSCN (K) cadre, identified as Lanuwabang, aged 30, said to be a Raja Peyu under the NSCN (K)’s civil set-up, belonging to Changtongya village under Mokokchung district, sustained five bullet injuries and was rushed to Naga Hospital Kohima where he was declared brought dead.
Police said they received reports about the shooting at around 7:25 p.m but could not provide information as to whether the deceased belonged to an underground outfit as also the identities of the miscreants responsible for the attack. NSCN (K) sources have, however, confirmed that the deceased belonged to its civil set-up under the rank of Raja Peyu. A case in this connection has been registered at the South police station.
