NSCN-K (Niki) reiterates neutral stance on Naga political talks

Dimapur, September 2 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) has clarified its position on the ongoing Naga political dialogue, stating that it remains “neutral and equidistant” from both the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position.

In a statement issued by its MIP, the NSCN/GPRN (Niki) said it was compelled to respond to “false rumours” being circulated, asserting that it has not aligned with the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) or their Agreed Position.

“Without our knowledge, the NNPGs issued a statement about Gen. Niki Sumi (Retd.), which should not be misconstrued in any way as being on the same page when it comes to our political stance,” the group maintained.

“NSCN/GPRN is neutral and equidistant from the Framework Agreement and Agreed Position,” it categorically asserted.

The statement further pointed to the “newfound love of character assassinations” by the Government of India (GoI) but asserted that “Naga political rights cannot be erased or bullied into submission,” and that history is a “testament to the resilience of the Nagas.”

In this connection, the NSCN/GPRN (Niki) suggested that the GoI should demonstrate sincere political will in the ongoing talks rather than trying to “revert back to the history of violence.”

“The carrot and stick policy of the GoI will only strengthen our resolve to fight back tooth and nail for our historical and political rights,” it maintained.

Reiterating its position, the group stated that it has taken a “sacred oath before Almighty God” to protect and defend the Nagas, and would not succumb to what it termed as the “cheap gimmicks.”

The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) believes in a political settlement that is inclusive of all stakeholders, it added.
