NSCN-K (Yung Aung) cadre killed in Tizit

A member of the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) was assassinated in Tizit in a suspected case of inter-factional rivalry. The dead body of the victim, identified by the police as Haiwang Konyak, was found in Tizit’s Hongsai colony in the morning, June 13. 

According to the Mon police, the victim was a Central Council Member in the NSCN-K (YA) and held the rank of Razou Peyu. The police suspect atleast 4-5 assailants were involved in the killing reported to have occurred at around 6:00 am. He was shot from close range. 

The assailants involved in the killing have not been identified and a thorough police investigation is ongoing, stated the Mon police. A suo moto FIR was lodged at the Tizit Police station under Section 302 IPC and Section 27(1) of the Arms Act.

Tizit orgs condemn
Civil society organisations condemned the killing. The Tizit unit of the Konyak Union and Tizit Area Students’ Union, in a joint media statement, said that the incident has disturbed peace at a time when the ENPO community is collectively striving for peace and respectful relationship. “Such act of killing is highly condemned and Tizit, in particular, will not tolerate such inhuman and diabolical act,” it said, while seeking clarification from the persons/group/faction responsible to explain the reason for the killing. “Failing to clarify, an investigation shall be initiated by the CSOs at its level and the particular group/faction found responsible will be inviting the public's non-cooperation,” it cautioned. 

The two organisations also convey condolences to the bereaved family.
