NSCN-K (Yung Aung), ULFA-I announce boycott of R-Day

Dimapur, January 22 (MExN): The NSCN-K (Yung Aung) and ULFA-I today announced a boycott of the January 26 Republic Day in the WESEA region, calling it an “imposed” celebration and “another failed attempt to mislead the world regarding the actual situation.”

In a joint statement received here, the duo claimed that the “Western South East Asia” (WESEA) region never joined the Indian Union of its own “free will” and was coerced to live under a “corrupt political system and economic dependency policies.”

It also alleged a widespread climate of fear among India’s minorities and the erosion of civil liberties in the world’s largest democracy.
Accordingly, it called for support for the boycott by refraining from observing the day.

“The joint boycott will be effective in the so-called states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur,” it added.
