NSCN (R) urges all stakeholders to support ongoing Indo-Naga talks

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 31 (MExN): The NSCN (R) today appealed to all Naga political groups and stakeholders to support the ongoing Naga talks.

A press note from the MIP of the NSCN (R) said that the Naga political movement for self-determination has come a long way through difficult times and situations. This movement has affected the life of every Naga man and woman alike and is related to all Naga souls, it stated.

It said that after many years of bloodshed, struggle, pain, tears, arguments, “the talk of peace is once again resonating in our backyard.” “It is an opportunity to bring back smiles into the faces of all affected Naga people. It is an opportunity to thank God. Naga people shouldn’t miss this opportunity,” the NSCN (R) urged.

“The talks may be led by one of the Naga faction but ultimately if, it is for the good of the Nagas, it is our duty and responsibility to lend our support,” it stated, while noting that “it is our duty and responsibility to understand them and their situation rather than looking for an opportunity to criticize.” It urged the Naga people to show more maturity while dealing with the Indo-Naga issue and come out of tribalism or clan-ism. “Therefore, I strongly feel that, it is the responsibility of every single Naga man and woman to support it and hammer out the best solution.” The NSCN (R) urged all Naga political groups, national workers, intellectuals, churches, NGO’s and all concerned Naga citizens to work closely and in unison to achieve the desired goal.

“We should not wait for the day when the agreement will be finally signed only to condemn it or criticize immediately the next day. Condemnation for the sake of condemnation or criticizing just for the sake of criticism will never do anything good for the Naga people,” it cautioned.

It therefore urged the Naga people to rather try to be a part of the process and contribute to make it more meaningful and successful. “We appreciate the courage shown by both the GOI and the NSCN, to bring an early settlement to the long pending Indo-Naga issue by going ahead with the signing of the framework agreement to enter into a new relationship. The sincerity of the GOI is highly laudable as the PMO is directly overseeing and handling the Naga issue unlike before,” the NSCN (R) acknowledged.

Affirming that the Naga issue is unique, it stated that so also the solution must be unique. “RN Ravi, the present Chairman, JIC and interlocutor of the Naga peace talks, is not only well versed on the Naga issue but also equally sincere and serious to find out an amicable solution. Therefore, we once again appeal to all Naga brothers to join hands, in an effort to curve out the most honorable and acceptable solution based on our historical and political rights,” the NSCN (R) appealed.
