Dimapur, September 10 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, today forecast thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain at a few places across Nagaland over the next four days.
However, the districts of Chümoukedima, Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Phek, Shamator, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto are expected to witness heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, the NSDMA noted in a weather advisory issued for September 11 to 14.
Accordingly, it called for precautionary measures in lowland and foothill districts against waterlogging and flash floods due to the risk of high precipitation in the hill sector. Places such as Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit and Tuli are vulnerable, it added.
The NSDMA cautioned that such weather conditions could disrupt communication and connectivity due to lightning strikes and strong winds.
The Authority also requested all District Disaster Management Authorities and line departments to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon season.
For any emergencies, the public has been advised to contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at the toll-free number 1070.
