Dimapur, February 28 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has demanded termination of services of retired government officials who have been appointed as “consultants” in the government departments. A copy of a letter addressed to the chief secretary of Nagaland received here today carried the caution of “untoward occurrence” from the NSF if the State fails to comply with the demand.
“The NSF has been observing certain officers who have retired and whose retirement are in the offing have been trying tooth to nail to remain clung to power even after their retirement from service in spite of already having served as officers for maximum years,” the NSF said. The NSF strongly opposes such malpractices, it said, and has demanded that the government stop appointing retired heads of departments or any other person as a departmental consultant in any capacity at any cause. The reason is, the NSF stated, ‘every’ officer is qualified to man the ‘offices.’
The organization said the State government accommodating “such person” would not only invite corruption but also create room for “gratifying their personal desires that will bring instability to the department by such interference.”
“The federation in the interest of the students’ community fervently appeals the government not to appoint a consultant for carrying on to the business of the concerned departments so as to prevent corruptions and to keep the respective departments totally accountable and transparent. Further, failing to comply with this appeal, the government shall solely be held responsible in any case of untoward occurrence.”
