NSF Emergency Protest over NEET state quota controversy

KOHIMA, AUGUST 18 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has called for an “Emergency Protest” against the candidature of non-indigenous candidates of Nagaland state under the Nagaland State Quota for NEET 2025 admissions.

It maintained that the state quota is strictly and exclusively reserved for indigenous Naga candidates, as per existing policies and constitutional safeguards for Scheduled Tribes. According to it, permitting such ineligible candidature will deprive deserving indigenous Naga students of their rightful opportunities, set a precedent for misuse of temporary postings and affiliations, and undermine the very spirit and intent of the State Quota policy.

The NSF directed all its federating units and sub-ordinate bodies to detail 10 volunteers each to the Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima, by 11:00 AM on August 19. While stating that necessary proceedings will be initiated from the venue, it appealed all concerned citizens of Nagaland to join the protest and “stand united in defence of the rights of the indigenous Naga people.”

It said that the NSF is committed to safeguard the rights and privileges meant for indigenous Nagas, and warned of opposing any attempt at diluting or misusing the provisions.
