Student bodies urged to look beyond taxation
DIMAPUR, JUNE 19 (MExN): A joint team of the NSF and ENSF on Tuesday visited GPRN/NSCN designated camp Khehoi and held meeting with them at 7 am. The main agenda discussed was the levying of taxes on educational institutions by the Naga political groups. A GPRN/NSCN functionary said the student bodies were told that they should not seek for a “quick-fix solution” on the particular issue and also encouraged them to look beyond taxation.
Pointing to the numerous central schemes and funds, GPRN/NSCN said that people in high seats such as ministers, bureaucrats etc were actually siphoning off large amount of money. The student bodies were told that people in such high seats were the ones who were really creating a very unwelcome economic environment.
GPRN/NSCN said that the taxation was collected only once in a year “but what they (people in power) are doing is beyond imagination.”
Nevertheless, GPRN/NSCN said that if there was to be any decision or concession on taxation it could be sorted out during the next fiscal year. No concrete decision was given to the NSF and ENSF on the issue of taxation. Further, the source said that the two sides also exchanged opinions on how best they could go about working together for the people.
