In the backdrop of ongoing political talks between the Government of India and Naga political groups, and also considering the present crucial political juncture of Naga history, the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) today held a candlelight vigil in Kohima.

Stating that “prayer and divine intervention is the need of the hour,” the federation expressed solidarity with "our Naga negotiators for inclusive, honourable and acceptable solution and also extend a prayer for peace and tranquility to prevail in our homeland."

The gathering of NSF leaders, senior leaders, students and well wishers lit hundreds of candles while chanting "We shall overcome" outside the NSF office, Naga Club Building this evening.

NSF President, Ninoto Awomi meanwhile said that considering the crucial situation, where the talk will directly impact the entire Naga community, both the NSF and Naga people is anticipating for an inclusive solution, which is honourable and acceptable. He further expressed hope for a positive outcome to the talks.

The President further said that "even in the past, there have been solutions, but those solutions have not been able to bring lasting peace.” The reason, he stated, was because the Government of India “failed to address the core issue."

“By honourable and acceptable would mean- a unique solution, a flag that defines our identity and honourable would mean a solution much more than past solution,” the President said to media persons.

He also noted that both the GoI and the NSCN (IM) should come to a mutual understanding.

Earlier, Zakevi Lessen, Associate Pastor (Youth), Rengma Baptist Church Kohima prayed for the vigil. A special song was presented by Khriezotuolie Chasie.

Similar vigils were also undertaken in Wokha, Dimapur, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel and Senapati.
