NSF scans ‘corrupt & dubious contractors’

Dimapur, October 3 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), which has been taking up issues pertaining to the welfare of Naga students and youths, has expressed its constraint to observe the attitude of Mohan Singh & Co. for taking the Naga people for granted by creating liabilities instead of assets.

“It is disheartening to see that Mohan Singh & Co., which had been taking up contractual works for the past several years in the State has never been in line with the norms and criteria of the contract work in particular and it is also not to the satisfaction of the Nagas in general”, stated a press note issued by NSF President Mutsikhoyo Yhobu.

The NSF in its press note stated that besides observing delay in completion of major projects like construction of IRB Headquarters, the “workmanship has been very poor to the extent that before the battalion occupied the camps repair and renovation works have to be taken up”.

Another glaring example is the Wokha-Merapani road, which has become the talk of the day for not being completed even after the lapse of the contract period and use of worst quality materials, stated the press note. Moreover, the NSF expressed surprise that the contractor instead of the timely completion of the works have always been “playing delay tactics to increase the bill by flouting the laid down contract norms”.

The NSF pointed out that it was “dumbfounded as to how Mohan Singh & Co. has been regularly given such major contracts even as he has been continuously cheating the Nagas and duping huge amount of money without accountability and completion of works”.

The NSF also cautioned the concerned authorities that some local contractors are far more capable and given a chance they have been carrying out quality workmanship and completing the projects well in time. Moreover, the NSF viewed that the Government should promote the qualified Naga youths who have enough caliber and looking for job opportunity, instead of “sheltering non-locals continuously cheating the Nagas”.

The NSF as such has called upon the concerned departments to properly check the quality of workmanship so that the works created becomes assets for the future Naga generation. In this regard the NSF reiterated that being an apex organization working towards the upliftment of the students’ community, who are also the future of the State, it will not shy away from the responsibility of pointing out any anomalies which will be deterrent for the future generation.

“Therefore, we also call upon all the Naga organizations and individual not to provide a safe haven for any such corrupt and dubious contractors like Mohan Singh & Co. so that Nagas are fooled anymore”, the NSF stated.
