NSF signals truce with Govt.

DIMAPUR: In the first official statement indicating that it had come to a truce agreement with both the NPSC and the State government, the Naga Students Federation (NSF) today decided to allow the Nagaland Civil Service (NCS) Mains Exam to go ahead as scheduled for August 20 with the new set of officials and fresh question papers, as assured by the government.  A joint press communiqué issued by Imchatoba Imchen and Worthing Horam, Vice-President and Secretary Social & Cultural Affairs respectively of the NSF also expressed its acknowledgement to the NPSC for conceding to its demand by burning and setting afresh question papers for the NCS Mains Exam.

The NSF at the same time, reiterated its principal demand to cleanse the corrupt system within the NPSC while urging cooperation from all quarters in sharing relevant information, verbally or written, which would help in unearthing corrupt practices prevalent within the NPSC for the past twenty years. The NSF assured that identity of persons sharing information would be kept secret by the federation.  

In an emergency Executive meeting, the Federation unanimously decided to suspend the first phase of agitation till the completion of the Mains exam. While reiterating its earlier demand for a CBI probe into the NPSC scam, the NSF also decided not to obstruct the vigilance department in its investigation process. The NSF has however made it clear that it would keep a close watch on the process of investigation, prosecution and cautioned against any undue interferences from various quarter. While welcoming the government’s decision in strengthening the manpower of the State Vigilance Commission (SVC), the federation was sceptical of the limited judicial power vested with the vigilance to execute their findings in an impartial manner. In this regard, the NSF has urged the government to give full autonomy to the SVC in order for it to exercise its due functions without any hindrance and in the shortest possible time.
