DIMAPUR:  The Naga Students Federation (NSF) has vehemently reacted and condemned the accusations leveled against its volunteers as well as supporters of the All Naga Students Association (ANSAM) by the United Committee Manipur (UCM) of collecting Rs. 10,000 per truck from Manipur-bound trucks.

In a statement issued by the Secretary Social and Culture, made available here, the Apex Naga students’ organization warned the UCM that the NSF would in no way tolerate such wild allegations and that the UCM itself would be held solely responsible in case of any unwanted eventuality that might arise out the “malicious and baseless” accusation. It challenged the UCM to come out with proof and necessary evidence to support the allegations at the earliest “or else UCM shall be held solely responsible for any unwanted development” the release stated. The NSF, while describing the accusations as a cheap attempt to gain publicity or “mileage”, stated that the UCM should not compare its ‘low mentality’ with that of the Nagas in any way.

The NSF further asking the UCM to learn from the Nagas, ‘lessons and classes for which the Nagas were ready to impart’, stated that the non-cooperation movement against the Manipur Government should be well taken by the Meiteis and they should also learn to live with the Nagas as good neighbors rather than inflicting themselves by exposing their vengeful attitude.

It must be mentioned that a news item had appeared in some local dailies on August 8 based on local news agencies wherein the United Committee Manipur had accused the NSF and the ANSAM of extorting money from Manipur-bound trucks.
