NSL awards night set for April 8 at RCEMPA Jotsoma

DIMAPUR, APRIL 4 (MExN): The Nagaland Super League (NSL) awards night is scheduled to take place on April 8 at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, beginning at 7 pm. The event will honor outstanding performers from the inaugural season of the NSL, celebrating individual achievements and contributions to the league.

Organized by the NSL Governing Body, the awards night will recognize players, coaches, and fans in a ceremony aimed at showcasing excellence and sportsmanship. Nominees for the individual awards were selected by the Committee of Jury for the Nomination and Selection of the Individual Awards of the NSL. The committee conducted a thorough statistical analysis of the season to identify and shortlist players.

The Jury includes Neivikoulie Khatsu, assistant secretary general of the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) and convenor; Mughato Aye, vice president of the Nagaland Football Association; Kuputo Shohe, joint secretary of NOA; and Roko Angami, an AFC ‘B’ licensed coach.

Several major award categories will be presented, including the NSL Golden Glove, Best Midfielder, Best Striker, and Best Defender, each accompanied by a Rs 1 lakh cheque, trophy, and meritorious citation. The Golden Boot for the top scorer carries a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 motorcycle, Rs 1 lakh cheque, trophy, and citation, while the coveted Golden Ball (Player of the Season) includes a KIA Sonet worth Rs 10.78 lakh, a Rs 3 lakh cheque, and other accolades.

The Golden Star award for the best under-20 player includes a Toyota Glanza, a Rs 2 lakh cheque, and a citation. Additional honors include the Fair Play Award, Best Goal, and The William Koso Award for Best Coach, named in memory of late William Koso, to be awarded annually going forward.

The event will also recognize contributions by the media and fans. Awards will be presented in categories such as Best Social Media Franchise, Best Social Media Player, Best Social Media Fan, and Best Influencer, each carrying a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Special Fan Awards will be introduced this year to acknowledge the most passionate supporters, who will each receive Rs 10,000.

Organizers said the NSL Awards Night aims to be a celebration of the game’s growing influence in the state and a tribute to those who made the inaugural season a success.
