NSLSA announces schedule for National Lok Adalat

Kohima, February 14 (MExN): As per the direction of the direction of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), four National Lok Adalats will be held this year starting March 9.

The schedule for the other there National Lok Adalats in 2024: 2nd – May 11; 3rd- September 14; and 4th-December 14.  

Sharing the approved schedule for 2024, the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) informed that four National Lok Adalats are conducted annually in all District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) and High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) under the State Legal Services Authority. 

It is held based on provision of Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 read with National Legal Services Authority (Lok Adalats) Regulations, 2009.

A press release from NSLSA Member Secretary, Victo Sema informed that directions will be issued to all concerned to conduct pre-lok Adalat or pre-conciliation sittings before the scheduled date of National Lok Adalat, so that the opportunities for negotiations may be offered to the parties to arrive at a compromise or settlement.

What are covered under National Lok Adalats?

According to NSLSA generally pre-litigation and pending cases can be taken up for settlement in the National Lok Adalats.

The cases include all types of Civil and Compoundable Criminal cases, as may be permissible under the Act/Regulations.

The State Legal Services Authorities will make all endeavours to promote registration of pre-litigation cases and services of notices through digital platforms/online mode to ease pressure on conventional system, it said.

Pending cases taken up during National Lok Adalats

All type or civil and compoundable criminal cases including following:          

I. Criminal Compoundable Offences; 

II. NI Act cases under Section 138; 

III. Money Recovery cases; 

IV. Motor Accident Claim cases;

V. Labour dispute cases; 

VI. Disputes related to Public Utility services such as Electricity & Water Bills cases etc. (excluding non-compoundable); 

VII. Matrimonial disputes (except divorce)/Family disputes;

VIII. Land Acquisition cases; 

IX. Service matters including pension cases;

X. Revenue and other ancillary matter, pending before High Court, district Courts and state/district/taluka authorities.

XI. IPR matters/ Consumer matters/ also other matters pending before any other quasi-judicial authority

XII. Other civil cases (rent, easmentary rights, injunction suits, specific performance suits etc.)
