NSO calls for peace, justice after Hongbei ambush kills four

Dimapur, March 30 (MExN): The Naga Students Organization (NSO) has expressed shock and deep sorrow over the ambush at Hongbei village junction in Ukhrul district on March 28 around 9 pm, which claimed the lives of four personnel of the Naga Army under the Eastern Flank Command.

Condemning the incident, the NSO termed it alarming, particularly at a time when the Naga people face challenges from multiple fronts, and stressed that violence among “our own people” weakens the collective cause.

The organisation called for a thorough and transparent inquiry, stating that the motives of the perpetrators must be established publicly and justice delivered for the victims and their families.

Reiterating its consistent stand for peace, reconciliation and unity amid differences among various NSCN/GPRN groups, the NSO said internal divisions remain the greatest threat to the Naga people.

It urged the United Naga Council and Tangkhul Naga Long to intervene and facilitate a just and peaceful resolution in accordance with established laws and Naga customary practices.

The NSO also appealed to the NSCN/GPRN Eastern Flank Command to exercise restraint and refrain from retaliation, while urging Hebron authorities to remain accountable and cooperative with the public.

The organisation expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and mourned the loss of Major Sochipem Phungshok, Sergeant Major Zairay Vasah, Sergeant Bahnle Ahlapya and Sergeant Thansomi Washi.
