NSOB and NIPF discuss critical issues affecting Nagas living in Myanmar

Dimapur, October 2 (MExN): The Naga Students Organisation Burma (NSOB) called on the Nagaland Indigenous People's Forum (NIPF) on September 30 and October 1 in Dimapur to discuss “critical issues affecting Nagas living in Myanmar.”

The NSOB delegation, as part of its peace mission, was led by its President Naogang Ngansa, General Secretary Mankai Konyak, and ENSA President Atimiu Makury. The objective of the peace mission is to foster unity and cooperation among the Nagas, addressing pressing concerns and promoting collective progress, according to a press release from the NIPF Media Cell.

NIPF officials included President Dr Lima Jamir, Advisors Khehoto K Swu and Dr Temsu Jamir, Vice-President Keneiletuo Angami, Assistant General Secretary Kikheto Sumi, and Treasurer Temjenmeren.

The key issues deliberated at the meeting included an update on the current situation in Myanmar, particularly East Nagaland, highlighting the challenges faced by the Nagas, the release said.

The meeting also discussed ways to ensure free movement across “imposed border areas,” currently restricted by Assam Rifles and civil administrators, and explored ways Nagaland CSOs can advocate for East Nagas.

Opposition to border fencing within Naga areas in Arunachal, Nagaland, and Manipur, as well as Naga National Security threats and advocating for unity and brotherhood, were also discussed.

It further considered promoting road development and trade in border areas to benefit local communities, and establishing educational centres in border areas through the Nagaland government, churches, CSOs, and NGOs.

The NSOB and the NIPF meeting also touched on providing relief materials to poor families facing food crises.

The establishment of an NSOB office at Lahe Headquarters, as well as the upcoming NSO games and sports meet (October 14 and April 2025), were also on the agenda.
