NSU calls off agitation after demands met

PEREN, AUGUST 23 (MExN): The Nsong Students’ Union, along with allied organisations, on Saturday called off its agitation and closure of schools following the issuance of an official notification by the Directorate of School Education on August 22.

The notification, which was approved by the state Cabinet addressed the key demands raised by the Union, a press release issued by the NSU informed.

With the development, normal classes will resume from Monday, August 25. The Union has appealed to all students, teachers and staff to return to their academic duties and responsibilities.

According to the Department, the posting of teachers has been reviewed and rationalised, while the new order includes the appointment and redeployment of teachers, including Science teachers, which was the Union’s principal demand.

Further, the earlier distinctions among subject-specific Graduate Teachers have been withdrawn, the press release stated while adding that all Graduate Teachers will now fall under a single category and may teach any subject except Mathematics and Science, thereby addressing the demand for English teachers through a unified policy.
