NSUI Nagaland to campaign against conduct of exams

Kohima, July 21 (MExN): The National Students’ of India (NSUI) Nagaland Unit will be launching its first phase of online campaign on July 26 to draw the attention of the State Government on its demand that university students be evaluated on the basis of their internal marks, assignments, project work, dissertations and their past performances.

A press release in this regard was issued by NSUI Nagaland Unit Media Cell on July 21 stating that the Nagaland University in line with the guideline of the UGC has also decided to conduct the final year exams.

“The decision of the UGC has put the lives of millions of students at risk,” it stated. 

Further, it said that NSUI had written to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and the Minister for Higher & Technical Education on June 6 “but there has been no response till date.” Expressing dismay at the State Government’s silence on the issue, the NSUI also cited that ICMR’s earlier information that “cases will rise exponentially by mid-November,” and contended that the rise in cases have already begun. As such, conducting exams in such an environment is not conducive.

Among others, the NSUI also highlighted accommodation and logistical problems that students will have to face as many have gone back to their hometowns or even outside the state. This will cause tremendous mental trauma, anxiety and stress on the students which will adversely affect the students in their exams, the NSUI stated.

It further reiterated its demand that undergraduate, postgraduate as well as final year students of other allied courses be evaluated on the basis of their internal marks, assignments, project work, dissertations and their past performances and promoted without exams.
