Peren, February 9 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Baudi (Nagaland) has declared a “blanket ban” on logging in Peren district’s Ntangki National Forest. Stating that it has taken a strong stand to check illegal logging in the Ntangki National Forest, the ZBN in a press release informed any individual or group indulging in illegal logging activities to abstain from the day of this publication.
The press release issued by ZB(N) President, Rangsam H. Hau and General Secretary, Meijiang Gonmei further said that the Baudi (hoho) has decided to strictly implement its decision of January 4, 2016 joint meeting held in Jalukie to check at every strategic point/ gate by the action committee formed exclusively for this issue.
Meanwhile, the Baudi stated it is “utterly appalled and disheartened” to observe the detrimental factors that are playing spoilsports against the noble effort of the Zeliangrong people to protect and preserve the reserved forest.
Ever since the declaration of Ntangki National Forest as national property, it said, the Zeliangrong people have been rendering their best efforts in the interests of the common Naga people to protect and preserve the fast depleting reserved forest.
“We also fail to understand as to why the officials concerned of the Forest Department are unable to execute their duty as assigned while they are employed for the given tasks within the vicinity of the reserved forest,” it added.
The ZB(N) stated that it shall not be held responsible for action against anyone defying its notification against illegal logging in any manner.
