NTPRADAO demands end to ‘backdoor’ IAS appointments

Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Transparency Public Rights Advocacy and Direct Action Organization (NTPRADAO), has extended support to the Joint Co-ordination Committee’s demand to end favouritism and “backdoor appointments” in the IAS induction process for Non-State Civil Service (Non-SCS) officers.

The Joint Co-ordination Committee (JCC), comprising CANSSEA, FONSESA, NIDA, NSSA NF&ASA, and backed by the All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA), is spearheading the agitation.

In a statement, the NTPRADAO condemned the state government's practice of what it called “encouraging backdoor entries into the IAS.” It described the IAS as a prestigious service requiring rigorous examination and selection.

The organization emphasized that many Non-SCS officers have, like their IAS counterparts, qualified through demanding Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) exams after years of dedicated effort.

“NTPRADAO states that when the state government speaks for meritocracy through NPSC and NSSB, why nepotism towards backdoor appointees for induction into IAS those who have not burn midnight candles even for a minute or struggle to study for a day..?” the statement questioned.

It accused the government of “double standards,” promoting meritocracy through its recruitment bodies while allegedly indulging in nepotism for IAS inductions.

NTPRADAO appealed for a merit-based system, urging the government to induct only the most eligible Non-SCS officers, who were recruited through the constitutionally mandated NPSC, into the IAS. It further called upon “all right-thinking Nagas, writers, intellectuals, and influential civil society organizations (CSOs)” to support the JCC's demand to ensure a fair system for future generations.
