KOHIMA (MExN): A workshop on ‘Introduction of New Undergraduate Syllabi and Examination Reform’ was held on July 27 at the Nagaland University Conference Hall. This is the fifth meeting of the Vice Chancellor with the Principals of the affiliated colleges on examination issues. Shyamlal Datta, the Governor of Nagaland, who is also the Chief Rector of Nagaland University, was the chief Guest.

In his speech, the Governor said that the workshop was an effective way to clarify doubts faced by the members of the teaching faculty regarding the change of syllabus. He stressed on the need for coordination between the Private and the Public sectors in providing infrastructure to the colleges so that they can be compatible with other colleges both at the national and the international level.

The Governor also said that this new syllabi will be very relevant to our people as it takes into account the socio-economic aspects of our society along with the educational requirements needed to be at par with the rest of the world. “These syllabi will be flexible and according to the feedback we get, it can be adjusted”, he said.

In the Keynote Address, the Vice Chancellor, GD Sharma said that the new syllabi should be made more powerful if we want to attain international standards. He also mentioned the need for subjects related to the North East and entrepreneurship in order to enable proper utilization of local resources.

He said the syllabi should be revised from time to time in order to cope with the change of times and that NU should take the responsibility to organize orientation programmes for the teachers. He also mentioned that the Government of India has provided 4000 journals free of cost to the NU Library.

Thejao Viheinuo, Registrar NU, who chaired the event, said that the need for changes and improvement had always been felt and the constraints with which the university was operating in the early formative years would not allow the university to take effective measures on this front and that they are glad that the university is now in the position to take new initiatives.
