Dimapur, July 23 (MExN): Students of the School of Engineering & Technology and Management (SETAM) of Nagaland University today demanded that the Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University accede to the ‘8-point’ demands raised in 2009, by the month of August 2011. A note from the SETAM students’ organization was received here today.
The institution’s students’ council did not explain what the demands were but mentioned, “the memorandum submitted to the vice chancellor, Nagaland University dated 25/09/2010” which remains unfulfilled.
“The agitation in SETAM which began on the 7th of February 2011 was called off on 8th February 2011 based upon assurance that ‘the eight point resolution’ would be fulfilled before the end of the semester i.e. June 2011. The resolution was taken on the meeting held on 8th February 2011, between the members of SETAM Engineering Students’ Council and Dr. RC Nayak (Dean of SASARD) representing vice chancellor NU, along with Prof. DP Sharma (Dean of SETAM), Chenlip Yakha Konyak (student welfare in charge, SETAM) and Dr. V Sharan (Academic in charge of SETAM),” the students’ council stated. SETAM’s students’ council president Menyanwongto and general secretary Jungshimanen Tzudir appended the note. “The same resolution was discussed at the meeting held on the 9th of February 2011 between the members of the student council and Dr. Tongpang Ao (Director, College Development- NU) and Dr. Temjen (Deputy Librarian of NU).”
All the students are asked to withhold their admissions until further notice from the SETAM students’ council and are asked to contact the following numbers: 9862261116/9774348030/9615292369.
The authority in concern is to fulfill the students’ demand before the beginning of the new semester i.e. August 2011 without fail, and to speed up the process not to affect the students’ career. “The students hope that they will not be failed this time,” the note added.
