Kohima, November 13 (MExN): The Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University. Medziphema Campus, will be organising a National Conference on ‘Harnessing Genetic Resources for Food Security: Innovations in Conservation and Utilization for Sustainable Crop and Livestock Improvement in the Northeast Region’ from November 17 to 18 in hybrid mode.
The conference is being held in collaboration with ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun(ICAR-NRCM), Medziphema, Chumoukedima District.
Prof. N. C. Talukdar, Vice Chancellor of Down Town University, Guwahati, and Dr. A. K. Pattanayak, former Director of the Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi, will grace the conference, along with several other distinguished speakers from across the country.
Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University, will serve as the Chief Patron, while Dr. Girish Patil S., Director, ICAR-NRC Mithun, and Prof. Dipak Sinha, Pro Vice Chancellor, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, will serve as Patrons.
The event aims to bring together leading scientists, researchers, academicians, and policymakers to deliberate on innovative strategies for the conservation and utilization of genetic resources to enhance food and nutritional security in the region.
The conference will also have the support and guidance of local advisors from 11 departments of the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus.
The Organizing Committee is headed by Prof. Malini Barthakur Sharma as Convenor.
The two day event is expected to feature keynote lectures, technical sessions, and panel discussions focusing on genetic innovations, sustainable breeding practices, and regional biodiversity management contributing to long-term food and livelihood security in Northeast India.
