DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 7 (MExN): In a significant milestone for Nagaland University (NU), the university’s Women Football Team made its debut at the East Zone Football (Women’s) Inter-University Tournament 2024-25, held at the National Sports University in Manipur from November 1-5, 2024. This marks a pivotal step forward in the university’s efforts to build a competitive sports culture.
Vice Chancellor Prof. J.K. Patnaik congratulated the team for their courage in participating in the prestigious tournament. “This is just the beginning, and I am confident that their participation in this tournament will inspire many more students to take up sports at NU,” Prof. Patnaik remarked.
The team’s debut is part of ongoing initiatives at the university to foster a robust sports culture. Dr. Harish Kumar Tiwari, DDS and a strong advocate for student participation in sports, expressed his heartfelt support for the players. He further encouraged all NU students to actively engage in inter-university and national-level government tournaments. “Such platforms not only provide opportunities to showcase talent but also bring recognition to the players, the university, and the state of Nagaland,” Dr. Tiwari said.
As highlighted by NU PRO Peter Ki, the university conducts regular open trials for various sports, encouraging students aged 17-25 to showcase their skills. These trials serve as a gateway for athletes to represent NU in upcoming competitions, with the goal of achieving success and further elevating the reputation of both the university and Nagaland’s sports culture.
