Numbers Vs Rhetoric – Cong responds

Dimapur, April 21 (MExN): The NPF continual ‘testing the intellect’ of the Naga people is criticized by the Congress party considering the former continues to ‘blindly’ defend ministers who regularly come under the cloud of corruption. “If the NPF thinks dharna is an alien culture, isn’t corruption alien to Nagas?” the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) challenged the NPF in response today. NPCC chief SI Jamir appended the statement.
“The NPF always speak as though it is not part of the Indian political system. It can’t go on testing the intellect of the Naga people by posing itself as the sole champion of Naga identity and culture. During the eight years of NPF regime, corruption has percolated down to the grassroots level and this is the culture of NPF.   If the NPF thinks dharna is an alien culture, isn’t corruption alien to Nagas?”
“Defending a tainted Minister is nothing short of imposing alien culture on Nagas,” the NPCC reminded the NPF.
The NPF blindly defending Minister of School Education & SCERT Nyeiwang Konyak tantamount to making itself party to the corrupt charges against the minister, the Congress reminded. “Dharna or ‘sit in protest’ is a peaceful way of protest prevalent in all democratic countries and practiced by people for grievances of public importance. The NPF’s attempt to suppress such democratic method was dictatorial that should be condemned by all democratic loving people.”
The Congress further said the NPF itself isn’t righteous in blaming the Congress of what they called ‘imposing alien culture and habit’ because their alliance with national political parties like BJP, JDU, Samata party and NCP are well known to the Naga people.
“The NPF’s ‘use and throw’ policy has only landed itself in isolation with all national political parties rejecting the NPF now. It won’t be a surprise, if one day, the NPF says parting ways with their alliance national parties were culture-cleansing exercises. The NPF also should explain as to why it is extending voluntary support to UPA Govt. if they think that Congress is imposing alien culture on Nagas,” the opposition stated in its challenge.
The Congress said the party had resorted to ‘dharna’ because the Minister of School Education & SCERT had “lost all his senses of moral responsibility and the chief minister too had failed to take action.”
“It is a fact that the issue was discussed in the assembly. However, it is also a fact that the minister had admitted of corrupting the money and had failed to produce the detailed expenditure as demanded by the opposition party. The people of Nagaland know very well the limitation of the Chief Minister as to why he had failed to take appropriate action against the Education Minister.”
The NPF terming the Congress’ protest against corruption as alien culture amply exposed that they are all corrupt, the statement added.
