NUTA demands immediate removal of VC

Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): In an open letter to the Chief Rector, Nagaland University, Raj Bhavan, Kohima, the Nagaland University Teachers’ Association (NUTA) has demanded that the former should recommend for the immediate removal of Vice Chancellor Prof. K. Kannan. The letter appended by Rosemary Dzuvichu, and Dr.N.Venuh, president and general secretary of NUTA, respectively states that in the interest of the University and as enumerated even in earlier memorandums, immediate intervention is necessary to restore normalcy and credibility in the functioning of the University.
NUTA in the letter further sought immediate attention to what it termed “the ongoing crisis in the University under the Vice Chancellor Prof. K. Kannan”. NUTA stated that it supports the genuine demands of the NUNTSA on all service matters which has seen serious violations and total lack of concern by the Vice Chancellor during his whole tenure. “We have sought clarification from the MHRD on the matter of DPC and it has been clarified that as these are internal matters affecting internal employees, the Vice Chancellor can conduct the DPC to avoid affecting any loss of benefits and promotions, but not fresh recruitment of any outsiders,” said NUTA and added that it condemns the willful inordinate delay by the Vice Chancellor in addressing the grievances of the NUNTSA and demanded that immediate actions be taken to solve the impasse which has affected the working of the University.
NUTA also said that the responsibility for the delay of the undergraduate BA results must be borne by Prof. K. Kannan and his unilateral decisions regarding examination system in the University. Also, the fiasco and failure of the online question paper delivery and now the present shortage of examiners from colleges are serious concerns which have led to the loss of credibility of the University and delay in declaration of results. The same has been brought to the notice of the Visitor.
NUTA also pointed out that the continuous absence of the Vice Chancellor during such crisis under vague excuses is ample proof that he is not interested in development of the university or the welfare of students, both at the University and Colleges, and condemned his sudden disappearance from the Lumami headquarters without resolving these crucial issues.
