NUTA renew demand for able Vice Chancellor

Dimapur May 23 (MExN): Notwithstanding the present Vice Chancellor, the Nagaland University Teachers Union (NUTA) Lumami, has demanded from the Search Committee for Vice Chancellor, a “responsible, eminent scholar and an able administrator” to sit the post.

The Lumami chapter association reminded the search committee that the Nagas in general and the NUTA particularly, has been demanding “a responsible, eminent scholar and an able administrator” time and again ever since the institution’s inception in 1994. “But on the contrary, the two former VCs have been selected and appointed by the authority without ascertaining these qualifications and against the wishes of the people and the association and they have damaged the University miserably in the form of financial irregularities, manipulations in appointments, violation of university statutes and UGC guidelines including total failure of administrative and academic development” the NUTA (L) in a statement from Dr Nzanbemo Lotha, President, and Dr Kilangla Jamir, Secretary General maintained. The logic that the NUTA forwarded was that if the “third” and the next VC happen to be irresponsible and dishonest like the previous two, the fate of the university would go from bad to worse and the NUTA will not be “sleeping on” once again.

Taking these into consideration, the NUTA, expressing serious concern for the well-being and all-round development of the institution, demanded from the search committee that a responsible, eminent scholar and an able administrator be selected as VC for the university. “In doing so, the committee will be doing justice and fulfilling the wishes and aspirations of the Nagas and the people at large” the NUTA stated.
