Nuton Basti Ao Khel Council general meet held, approves GPS extension

Dimapur, April 14 (MExN): The Ao Khel Council of Nuton Basti, DImapur conducted its general meeting on April 13 at the Government Primary School (GPS). This is the second year after the Ao Khel Council decided to include all the residents of the colony irrespective of tribes, which was earlier an Ao centric body.

A press note issued by K Wapong Longkumer, Secretary, Ao Khel Council, Nuton Basti Dimapur said that one of the important resolutions taken during the meeting was that the house approved the GPS extension proposal with proper prior approval from the concerned authorities and entrusted the relevant committees on the same.

The Chairman of the council T Maong Longchar in his welcome speech thanked all the members for attending the meeting and encouraged everyone to actively participate in the deliberations. A resident of the colony Kasheto in his speech opined that the strength of the community based organization and stressed on more coordination with denizens of the ‘khel’. He also stressed on communal harmony and unity in the ‘khel’. He requested everyone to work as a Naga and not indulge in ‘ism’. “Too much ‘ism’ is one reason for lack of development in Nagaland and so all should try to do away with ‘ism’,” he stated.

He also suggested the house that apart from the council if there is an intellectual body or organization, it will be highly beneficial for the residents especially when it comes to issues related to development.

One Merry Ezung in his speech stressed on the need for love as love conquers all and brings people together. “Love for fellow human beings always is rewarded by God with love comes peace, unity, harmony and success.”

Senior denizen and former chairman N Bendang in his speech expressed his contentment for including all the residents of the ‘Ao Khel’ in the council. To which he stressed on more participation and the need for selecting council’s officials from other communities irrespective of tribe or race. He said that a body is needed to look for avenues concerning repair of roads in the ‘khel’ and requested the council executives and officers to find ways for the same. 

Also, he said that a new transformer is needed for the colony. He also pointed out the ill effects of gambling centers (lottery counters) in the locality. In regard to more participation, he requested the council chairman and members to take part in all the Ward Chairman /Secretary Committee.

The note further informed that the house also discussed several issues where it resolved to entrust the executive committee for developmental activities and accepted in principle to have a ‘khel’/colony developmental board by next session. During the meeting SMC report, audit report and general report were also read out.
